ArtServe's weekend conference at Swanwick

28 Oct 2011 (All day) - 30 Oct 2011 (All day)

ArtServe, set up in 2009, wants to focus on working with faith communities to learn and develop creative worship

‘No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him’, as Paul reminded the Corinthians (1 Cor 2:9). Can we anticipate and prepare through our worship and in our churches, reflecting the beauty, diversity and struggle of human experience that is being transformed?

ArtServe responds ‘yes’, by promoting active engagement with creative arts – drama, music, story, dance and visual art. In ‘a prose-flattened world’, we need colour, poetry and movement to free us to experience and express something of the fullness of our shared dynamic relationship with God. ‘There is no reason why richly embodied liturgies, dancing, and drama could not so inspire the worshipper that everyday life would be transformed’.

ArtServe, set up in 2009, wants to focus on working with local churches and faith communities to learn and develop creative worship, offering resources and tutors for anything from arranging simple decorations to major festivals, from story-telling to graffiti, arranging workshop sessions  that fit your context, setting up partnership projects with local people and local cultures to benefit neighbourhoods and community well-being, releasing local talents and providing opportunities for local artists and musicians.

ArtServe as a national network would be pleased to work with you on a shared project. The website ( includes links to lots of creative arts people and resources.

If creative worship interests you, join the group on 28th – 30th October 2011 at Swanwick for ArtServe’s weekend conference, framed in participative Christian worship, with all sorts of workshops where you can try new skills, and learn and reflect about the relationship of creative arts and worship. Details and booking forms available from David Grimwood, email or on 08456 210410.
